One possible way of overcoming the problems that have been constraining the development of the Balkans is through collaborative efforts involving the civil societies from around the region. Civil society is not only vital in establishing effective channels of communication across national boundaries, but it also can push the region's integration into wider Euro-Atlantic structures.
The section Civil Society in SEE is designed as a BDG Balkan node and covers seven countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, FR Yugoslavia, Macedonia and Romania. It provides links to various types of information: publications, reasearches, websites of NGOs and international organizations, etc.
It offers a shared platform to encourage co-operation and concentration of efforts and resources for a sustained democratization and development of the region and to facilitate partnerships among organizations in the region and integration with counterparts in the West. Our goal is to make it a virtual meeting point for civil society actors, as well as a hub of information on the World Wide Web for countries in the region.
This page includes also information and data collected under a two year project sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development. In the framework of that project the portal Southeast Europe Online (http://www.southeatseurope.org) was built.
